Field Notes – May

cherry blossom, bloom, spring

House //  I’ve been in my home for one year today! Can’t believe how time flies. When I think about where I began with it… painting, ripping out carpet, replacing floors, lots of tlc along the way. It seems like a lifetime. I am really happy with it’s current state, even though there is always work to do, but for the most part it’s small cosmetic things and improvements. Hopefully in the next few weeks, I will have a brand, new paver patio to enjoy this Summer.

Scrapbook //  I have been able to keep up with Type class and it has kept me inspired to create. It sometimes takes all week to get a layout together, but I’ll take what I can get. I just finished a hybrid layout last night and am planning to get a few more done soon. I received my NSD order of embellies from Shop Evalicious, which is all adorable puffy stickers. I don’t buy a lot of supplies anymore, my stash is plenty big, but once in a while a few new things freshen it up.  Plus, I love to support small business.

Food //  I am enjoying seeing more local, fresh produce at the store and farmstands. We had an awesome tuna steak dinner the other night, with grilled asparagus and pasta salad. I made some Avocado Greek Yogurt to use as a condiment with the tuna. I’ve been using it since to dip sugar snap peas.

Avocado Greek Dip

I actually used my Nutri Ninja (so happy I purchased this system) to make the dip. I blended a small container of plain greek yogurt, a few slices of cucumber, a few chunks of avocado, squeeze of lime juice, 1 clove of garlic, a dash of black pepper and crushed red pepper flakes.

We’ve been enjoying a lot of tomato-cucumber salads, I prefer a Mediterranean-style diet. Next up on the list is pork tacos, black bean burgers and some banana chocolate chip mini muffins.

Yoga //  As most yogis know, my practice ebbs and flows with the moon cycles and my energy levels. I’ve been keeping consistent, but haven’t really pushed myself to another level yet. I am happy that my split (hanumanasana) is going a little deeper and I was even able to balance on a block on one side in class. I continue to practice my handstands (adho mukha vrksansana) against a wall, getting a second more of hang time each try.  I need to build up some more arm and core strength to be able to push up into crow (bakasana) from tripod headstead (sirsasana II). Besides my asana practice, I continue to focus more on mediation practice, karma yoga, and the yamas & niyamas. Yoga philosophy seems to be more on my mind than poses.

Ancestry // It’s on my list.  That’s all for now. A project I want to be able to spend more time on for sure. I have things at a place where I need to start digging deeper and start producing some layouts/stories. On my list is to visit the library in Brooklyn which has archives. Some of my ancestors come from that area, so I am hoping to find more information there. I think I will certainly have time before year-end to get into this project more.

Other than that, the next few weeks involve outdoor work, hanging art (again), trips to the markets, estate sales, some travel and lots of live music events.  With any luck, we will sneak in some beach time, pool time and party time!
