Week in the Life // Day Layout

I finally was able to start printing and assembling my Week in the Life album. As I was going along I kept jotting down thoughts: issues I was coming across, my process, just observations. I will share some of that within these posts about WITL.

First up is a look at my first & second page layouts for each day. I came up with a streamlined design and mostly stuck with that. (more about my issues with uniformity later!)

For each day I selected a 6×8 photo, generally a selfie, and mostly b&w, though I diverged from this theme some days. (again, I discovered my issue with keeping it the same!) I decided to put most of my journaling about the day onto one 6×8 layout for the 2nd page of each day. I typed this out in word processing software, much of the content came from my daily posts recorded during WITL. For some of those days, I included smaller photos within that journaling. Some days I had too much text to add anything, and even changed font sizes.

It took me somewhere around 4 hours just to print the majority of my photos. Given, I am using an old laptop, so it’s a bit slow. Initially I had too many issues with borders. I use several iPhone apps to edit, and usually print right from my phone, but I was not having luck with that. Part of it is my fault for putting journaling too close to the edge of photos.

Using Dropbox, I would upload the photos from my phone to my PC, then used Photoshop elements to adjust the size or edges a bit to not lose anything on printing. I checked off a box in the printing menu to view a preview before each print so I could inspect how it would come out and  make adjustments where necessary.

In the end, I found the easier way was to adjust the size of my photo to slightly under 6×4, depending on where the text was located, so it would be something like 5.85×3.9. It wasn’t too much of a hassle, and thankfully I only had to do that for maybe a dozen or so photos.

Here are the rest of the first & second page layouts for each day:

And this is the stack of 6×4 that either need to be trimmed & put into the rest of the page protectors. I still have a handful of mini or odd size photos to print. I was getting tired of printing and wanted to get to creating before I totally lost the enjoyment of putting this album together!

I will share a more in-depth look at the design for the first layout for each day next. Then as I complete the entire days I will share that, or may just do another video flip-thru. Stay tuned.

Thanks for stopping by!
