It was a last minute decision sometime Tuesday afternoon (on December 1st) to jump in and scrap the month. I won’t be doing December Daily necessary, but am going to try to scrap some significant stories. If you would like more information on December Daily, check out Ali Edwards’ blog and post here.
It’s amazing (& scary!) how quickly I pulled together a “kit” from my stash. While moving things around in my studio to make room for Thanksgiving weekend guests, I was reminded how many empty albums I own. I came across this 8×8 red WRMK album I picked up at TJ Maxx some time ago and thought it would be a good place to record December. I am using a mix of 8×8 & 6×8 page protectors.
I’m not necessarily tying the stories to my photos and would like to try to tell some other important or unique stories to my life that relate to the holidays.
In the past few years I have scrapped a layout or two about the holidays, but since it really isn’t my favorite I tend to not get what I want to record down. So I am hoping in doing it as I go to get more real time stories & thoughts included. When New Year’s day rolls around I am ready to put all the Christmas makings away, which may contribute to my lack of holiday layouts.
I found a pack of Simple Stories snap cards I purchased a couple years ago that I am using to fill in the pages. I am hoping to fill in with some Minc action once that arrives!
I wrote the thoughts included with December 1st in my Day One app that day before I even decided to do this project, while listening to holiday music at work.
I didn’t like how the “1” on the journal card looked, so I added the paper clip number by cutting a slit with my exacto knife in the middle of the card. The washi tape is Recollections from Michaels. The flag is from Chic Tags’ Good Tidings line.
I won the wishing side of the Thanksgiving turkey bone! I didn’t want to reveal my whole wish, but it had something to do with peace. Acrylic letters are Heidi Swapp, roller stamp is American Crafts.
Sometimes we may not really plan on something, but it calls to us for some reason anyway. If I’ve learned nothing else in life, it’s to listen to that intuition, that little voice. As my friend across the land, Marina, from mindfulmemorykeeping.com so wisely wrote, just start!
Are you doing some sort of December documentation? What do you like most about scrapping through the holiday season? What are some of the challenges?
(apologies for the dreary pictures, but it was overcast for a few days!)
