Bits & Pieces

Kits from Amy Tangerine

It was a full weekend.  Cooked pasta dinner for friends Friday night.  Celebrated one of my bestie’s daughter’s first birthday Saturday.  Spent Sunday cleaning, decorating and prepared a roast chicken dinner.  And now hooked on Netflix’s new show Bloodline.  It took a few episodes to get going, but now we are into it.

I try to be more selective with my crafty purchases these days.  I find I need unique items to help spur creativity.  When Amy Tangerine sold some different kits of supplies purchased in Japan, I had to grab one.  I absolutely love the animal face page tabs and have used them the most so far!  The pens are also fantastic quality.  I can never have enough variety of black pens for everyday writing to journaling on layouts to doodling designs on greeting cards.  I think most of the kits Sold Out, but she has some left!  Check it out

Interview Layout 2013

Periodically I will “interview” my nephew to record his “likes & dislikes” at the moment.  I love to hear him talk and see the wheels turning as he thoughtfully answers my questions.  My favorite answer was about a restaurant he likes to visit, I assumed he would pick something obvious like McDonalds or Chic-Fil-A… No, he says “the one where the man cooks in front of you,” I had to think for a minute, then I asked Banzai?!  Like a hibachi grill?  And he says “yes, that one.”  Ha, gotta love it.

For this layout I selected a photo that was taken the same week I conducted the interview, so in this instance, the story came first then the photo was selected.  I knew I wanted to sew on this page, and stitched diagonal, orange lines.  I decided to use these lines as a guide to add the interview Q&A.

He was just starting to write his name at the time of the interview, so I just asked him to print it on a journal card.  I wasn’t sure if that was just going to be added to a pocket page, but decided to add it onto this layout.

I used my Silhouette Portrait to cut the arrow design out of the teal pattern paper, and layered with the coordinating orange pattern paper.  I am constantly drawn to this teal/orange combo, especially for “boy” layouts.  I embellished with some washi tape and an acrylic star.

Do you interview your children or grandchildren?  It’s a memorable way to record a small slice of real life, getting their perspectives at any given age to add into albums of photos.  Here are some basic question suggestions to get you started:

What is your favorite color?

What restaurant do you like to eat at?

Do you have a favorite character or super hero?

What tv shows do you watch?

What do you want to be when you grow up?

Do you like breakfast or dinner food better?

Do you have a favorite book?

What place do you like to visit? (the beach, zoo, city?)

What subject do you like in school?

Name some of your friends from school.

What sport do you like to play?

Don’t be afraid to get more creative depending on the child.  I had my nephew explaining the type of combined super hero he would want to be, it was comical!

1st day of Spring???

1st day of Spring???

It started snowing around 8am and been going strong all day…the 1st day of Spring???!!!  Hopefully this is the end…

Snow does keep me inside the house, which isn’t my favorite, but it does give me time to get to some scrapbook and photography projects. {let’s be honest, we’ve been binge-watching House of Cards by the fireplace!}

I am looking forward to the warmer weather and sprucing up my backyard a bit.  I know when the Spring and Summer seasons hit, my completion of crafty projects declines a bit.  But hopefully I will be able to bring some home DIY to this spot!
